Augmented Reality Sandbox at Ute Pass Elementary
Fifth grade teacher Greg DiFiore and District Network Tech, Mat Krutka, have created an augmented reality sandbox at UPE. An AR Sandbox uses a computer projector, a Kinect 3D camera, and software to project a 3D view on a forty inch box of sand. Students can view and manipulate the sand to show moving contour lines, elevation shading, water flow, and even rain. The AR sandbox creates a fun and interactive way for students to study geology, topographic mapping, hydrology, forest ecology, erosion, and more!
