Dear Mustangs Parents and Guardians-
Manitou Springs School District 14 values the role that summative
assessments play in providing teachers with important diagnostic information
regarding student learning and growth. Thus, we have made the investment in the
Empower suite of assessments for our students in grades K-8. These assessments
align with the SAT tests that our secondary students take and provide important
information regarding how our students are progressing with their learning. This
information is used in our professional learning communities to help us address any
gaps we may have in our instruction and to see how we can both support and
challenge students with their learning.

We also are required to administer the state summative assessments each
spring. The state of Colorado continues to allow parents to refuse state testing. If
you choose to opt out of testing, we ask that you send us an email to notify us of
your decision. You may send your notice to the school assessment coordinator, Mrs. Kolleen Johnson ([email protected]). Please check with your school for dates of upcoming tests.

Mobile District App
Manitou Springs School District 14 has an official mobile app designed to enable parents, staff, students, and the broader community to stay informed regarding important issues, information, and activities underway within the school community. The free app, which proudly displays the MSSD14 logo, mascot, colors and content, can be downloaded for Apple iOS and Android.

The app will provide families with 24/7 access to district alerts (school closures, etc.), news, calendars, lunch menus, directories, events, sports schedules and results, and more. New information feeds will continue to be made available in the app over the coming school year. Our official mobile app empowers everyone in the community to stay connected and up-to-date on the information that they want and need, directly from their mobile devices. It’s another great example of our commitment to communication, as we know that in order for families to get involved in school activities and functions, they must first be informed of them. We are excited about how our app will help us communicate more effectively, and we hope it leads to a stronger, more connected school community overall.”
The app is available in the Apple Store and in the Play Store for free.
